Converting Existing Data into Unicode Format?

Hi Everybody,
We have an application which accepts transactions in local regional languages. The SQL Database is in 7.0 and OS is NT, with all latest SPs. We are planning to move it SQL 2000. During our testing we found, that Crystal Reports 9.0 is not able extract data which is in Korean/Chinese Languages but Crystal Reports 8.0 is working fine.
So we planned to move all existing data in SQL 7.0 to Unicode data format. For New data, we can change the datatypes from varchar to nvarchar.
Existing Sort Order as follows,
Unicode data sorting -- Locale ID =3D 1033
case insensitive, kana type insensitive, width insensitive
Sort Order Description ---
---
--
Character Set =3D 1, iso_1
ISO 8859-1 (Latin-1) - Western European 8-bit character set.
Sort Order =3D 52, nocase_iso
Case-insensitive dictionary sort order for use with several We
stern-European languages including English, French, and German

Is this the same issue that is posted with the subject "UNICODE" in the
microsoft.public.sqlserver.programming group? If so, see the replies

Converting 2000 rdl files to 2005

Hi, how do I go about converting 2000 rdl files to 2005 format?
I have searched on the web and people recommend opening up the
existing rdl files in report designer or create a new microsoft report
project from visual studio 2005.
My problem is that when I open up the rdl files in 2005 I just have
the XML contents and no designer support. Also, I looked to create a
new report project from the File-->New-->Project prompt in VS2005 but
I do not have a Report Project available to me...
I'm probably missing something basic here so any help appreciated :)
Thanks
MarkusThe difference in the rdl files are minimal. Change the 2003 namespace to:
<Report
xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2005/01/reportdefinition"
xmlns:rd="">http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQLServer/reporting/reportdesigner">
and there are few other properties that can be added or changed once you
figure out the missing VS2005 components.
Those properties or elements are: InteractiveWidth like:
<rd:DrawGrid>true</rd:DrawGrid>
<InteractiveWidth>8.5in</InteractiveWidth>
<rd:SnapToGrid>true</rd:SnapToGrid>
and InteractiveHeight like:
<Width>10.125in</Width>
<InteractiveHeight>11in</InteractiveHeight>
<Language>en-US</Language>
The converse is true when you design a report in VS2005 and need to go back
to VS2003 for SQL Server 2000. I always just comment out InteractiveHeigth
and InteractiveWidth and change the "2005/01" to "2003/10".

install the client tools from the SQL Server CD and check the options to
insure you install the client components for RS.
after this, Visual Studio will convert the reports automatically.
but an RS2000 report can be executed and rendered by reporting services
without any change.

Hi, thanks for your help; I went to install the client tools and I was
told that I already had them installed and that the install would not
go ahead as I was not changing anything on my local machine :-/
Any ideas welcome
Thanks
Markus|||Hi, I tried to do the install again and this was the message I
received
"Build version check:
Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later
version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an
existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control
Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click

Thanks again
Markus|||Hi, is your rdl's files, created using report builder 2000? I get a doubt
that the designer doesn't shows means, just some simple reports are created
using RB and saved as reports. Pl confirm.

you have to check which applications are already installed, maybe you can
just change the installed components of an existing SQL 2005 installation.
else try to uninstall all your components and try again.

Convert SQLExpress db to Sql Anywhere

Hi,

Is there any way that an existing database in SQL Express can be converted to a SQL Anywhere ?

regards

You can use the SQL Server Integration Services to move the data from SQL Express to SQL Server Everywhere. The links from the Online MSDN is as given below:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/ms140269.aspx

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/ms141093(SQL.90).aspx

Hello Ambrish

Thanks for a quick response.

But honestly, didn't understand how to do it.

I have created a database using SQL Express 2005 and have a project (using VB 2005 Prof) fully working with this db. Since the release of SQL Everywhere, want to try out the same project by just creating / porting the sql express database to sql everywhere (both structure as well as data - atleast the structure)

Hi Dharam,

SSIS transfers data table by table from a data source to SQL Mobile database. It does not transfer the schema. There are third party tools that transfers schema and data.

Jo?o Paulo Figueira has provided a link to a tool in the following post:

Convert MS Access(*,mdb) to SQL Server Database

Hi

I need to convert on existing Access database to SQL Server database. If I convert though sql DataTransformation, it taking only data from the Acccess Database not all the constraints like Primary Key, Default Value, Relations .........

Any one can give the solution to this

-->nRk

DTS and SSIS are both about moving data, they are not migration tools themselves, so they do not care about structural elements.

There seem to be plenty of guides and such like online-

Convert existing merge publication to transactional with queued updates

I have an existing merge publication and would like to convert it to
transactional with queued updates, because I think that the transactional is
probably more robust. Queued updating wasn't available in earlier versions
of SQL Server (v6.5 as I recall) when we first set up our replication. We
are using SQL Server 2000 on every subscriber.
Each table has a rowguid column that was added by the merge publication. Is
it feasible to reuse that column as the primary key for the new
transactional publication? The new publication wants to add a 2nd guid
column, but it seems unnecessary to use it, since each table already has the
rowguid. I don't want to add another guid column if it isn't necessary. I
was advised that that it would be, but am not convinced that is the case.
Thanks,
Reid
Reid,
my understanding is that guids are reused in merge if the column has
Uniqueidentifier datatype
has the ROWGUIDCOL property set, doesn't allow NULLs and has a default of
newid().
For transactional, the column must be called 'MSrepl_tran_version', doesn't
allow NULLs and has a default of newid() then it can be reused. So if you
are going from merge to transactional, and have relied on the merge process
to add the guid column, it will not be reused in transactional.
As an aside, I find merge more attractive as it has a rich set of conflict
resolvers, and the disaster recovery is straightforward as it doesn't really
use the distribution database for data transfer.

Convert datetime to char/nvarchar or the opposite (in specific for

I have a table with a column name Tdate, data type datetime, and length 8.
The look of the existing data in this column is from this format
DD/MM/YYYY HH: MI: SS.
I want to pass to a stored procedure string and another data that will
update a specific row, where the string I pass is equal to the value in the
column.
That’s why I want to convert the value of the column from datetime to
nvarchar.
My problem is I do not find the date format I wrote above – I searched in
sql books online and over the Internet.
I tried the following code (because it looks the most similar to the format)
and more others.
CONVERT(CHAR(30), Tdae, 131)='11/05/2006 12:20:35'
Can you please tell me how can I convert the datetime to nvarchar that will
look like that format?
Or – convert the string that looks like the format above to datetime from
that format.
Thanks in advance!Hi,
Converting datetime to varchar for comparison is not a good option.
But you can convert varchar to datetime.
Can't you use somthing like this for comparison?
Tdae = cast('11/05/2006 12: 20: 35' as datetime)
Or have I understood the question wrong?
